• The focus of the LignoSilva Center of Excellence project and the BIOEAST initiative, focusing on the energy use of wood, were presented at the working meeting. From the presentations of the participants of the working meeting, knowledge was gained about the direction of research and development in the use of wood biomass for energy purposes.

 

• The main benefit lies in the exchange of knowledge in building a research and development center focusing on the energy use of biomass and in obtaining information on the direction of research and innovation in this area.

On September 27, 2021, CoE Lignosilva will be presented at the BIOEAST FORESIGHT CONFERENCE (High-level foresight conference on positioning sustainable and circular bioeconomies) organized by the BIOEAST - Central and Eastern European initiative for knowledge-based agriculture, aquaculture and forestry in the bioeconomy. Dr. Tomáš Bucha, head of CoE LignoSilva will present on the topic: New technologies in wood processing value chains.

Online Seminar on Forest Bioeconomy Development and Cooperation between China and Central and Eastern European Countries was organized on April 20, 2021. The Center of Excellence LignoSilva participated to the conference with presentation entitled: Implementation of breakthrough technologies for increasing added value in wood and paper processing. Tomáš Bucha and Tomáš Gergeľ made the presentation as the invited speakers on behalf of the National Forest Center - CoE LignoSilva. The contribution is available here, and the online seminar program can be seen here. International konference BIOECONOMY AND CIRCULAR ECONOMY

The international conference BIOECONOMY AND CIRCULAR ECONOMY organized by the Regional Contact Organization of South Bohemia (European Research Area contact), in cooperation with the South Bohemian Agency for Support to Innovation and Institute of Circular Economy was organized on March 16, 2021. The Centre of Excellence LignoSilva participated to the conference with presentation entitled: Implementing Break-through Technologies and Procedures for Increasing Added Value in Wood and Paper Processing.  Tomáš Bucha, Tomáš Gergeľ are speakers on behalf of the National Forest Centre (Coordinator), and Štefan Boháček on behalf of the Pulp and Paper Research Institute (Partner). Presentation of CE Lignosilva for cooperation with the BITERAP cluster

Online conference IDEATION # 1 was organized by the BITERAP cluster on February 3, 2021. The LignoSilva Centre of Excellence presented part of the currently implemented technology there:

  • 3D CT scanning technology for increasing the yield and finalizing wood processing, robotization and automation of wood processing processes.
  • Satellite radar, aerial lidar and mobile ground-based laser scanning technologies for inventory and assortment of vegetation.

The CE LignoSilva presentation focused on ideas for cooperation with the BITERAP cluster. The founding members of the cluster and representatives of the Faculty of Informatics and Information Technologies, STU in Bratislava (STU FIIT) and the Faculty of Economics of the University of Economics in Bratislava (NHF EUBA) took part.

An initiative, innovation ideas and an interconnection platform within the BITERAP cluster were presented. CE LignoSilva successfully promoted itself and attracted participating representatives. The result could be a successful mutual cooperation. Invitation available here.

Second validation workshop of the CEE Hub (Rosewood4.0)

Wood mobilization and digitalization: exchange and validation of Rosewood4.0 Hubs best practices by Central-East European HUB

The second validation workshop of the CEE Hub took place on 18th November, 2020. It’s main goals were as follows:

  • Present the identified Best Practices & Innovations from 4 Rosewood4.0 HUBs and stimulate reflection and discussion on the way forward in the implementation of some good practices from country to country;
  • Prioritize the other Hub BPs to cover needs of the CEE Hub;
  • Discuss the HUB needs if those were not addressed by the Best Practices selection.

   Similarly as the first validation workshop, also the second one was held online. The meeting was organised by the CEE Hub Manager (FORZA, UA) on the Zoom platform, with the help of other Hub partners (ITD, PL; KO-FA, RO; NFC, SK). There were 31 participants, representing both experts and consortium partners from the CEE Hub (Ukraine, Poland, Slovakia and Romania) and Hub Managers and other guests from 4 other ROSEWOOD4.0 Hubs.

Interlinks of LignoSilva with H2020 project Rosewood4.0 implementation are continuously developed.

LignoSilva has been identified and evaluated as SK best practice, with the highest ranking of experts.

ROSEWOOD4.0 project focuses on the tailored (user- and region-specific) transfer of know-how and information that enables and supports stakeholders of the wood value-chain to exploit innovations and best practices and facilitates the capture of innovative ideas enhancing the development. 

LignoSilva for the bioeconomy kickstart in Slovakia

Centre of Excellence LignoSilva organized meeting with decision makers (representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of the SR), director general of the National Forest Centre and President of Wood-processing industry union on July 17th, 2020 at the National Forest Centre Zvolen. LignoSilva development process, infrastructure, project ideas and activities with a concrete and ambitious impacts, supported by a critical mass of stakeholders were presented as Excellence pillar of BIOEAST CEE macroregion with a shift towards a circular bioeconomy as a challenging driver for the forest-based sector.

Visit of the Minister of Agriculture

LignoSilva Centre of Excellence as a flagship focus was presented during the visit of Ján Mičovský, new minister of Agriculture and Rural Development of the Slovak Republic at the National Forest Centre (May, 22nd, 2020), by the project coordinator Tomas Bucha. Priority areas for innovation and research for the future of the forest-based sector were identified, reflecting the EU´s research and innovation funding programme for 2021-2027, the FTP Vision 2040 and the Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SIRA 2030) and interlinks with BIOEAST Forestry Working Group.
